| We had a kingsize bed that would hold four people and a lovely luxurious bath that I have used several times. Valerie just likes to take a shower. She is too impatient to lay in a bath. On Valentines Day we went out for dinner and I bought her a special handmade necklace made of waterpearls. We went to several musea and enjoyed the cobble stones. It is not advisable to walk around there on high heels. We discovered several lovely pubs. One was an irish pub called Mullens. There was a girl serving there who had travelled all over the place and was shortly going back to New Zealand where she liked it best although she was born in Australia. We went in there twice and the second time we had dinner while I watched a football match. It was Manchester United against Ajax. The other pub was called the Tribunal and the atmosphere was great. When you order a beer that throw a lot of peanuts (in the shell) on the table as it is standard with a drink. The whole pub is made of oak and it creates such a lovely warm atmosphere. When we left on that following friday they were just about to start the carnival where people sing and dance on the street and are all dressed up in the most extravagant and funny costumes. Everything happens on the street so I hope the weather works out for them. Everyone gets totally drunk but people are so pleasant there that everyone has a good time. It becomes one big happy family and for cabdrivers it's a good time as they make a bundle of money taking people here and there. We had a cabdriver picking us up last monday and he used to live in The Hague but he moved back to Maastricht where he came form as the people are more relaxed there. From my own experience I noticed that he was right. Everyone we met was absolutely lovely! |

| I just want you all to know that Valerie and me are going to spend our Valentines Day in the north of the country where we will stay in a luxurious hotel until the 15th of february. You see, we won a hotelticket with the Postcode Lottery. It includes a lovely dinner, a night and a lovely breakfast. Then we decided to add another day to it. Who ever heard of travelling back home on Valentines Day so that was certainly not a point of discussion. We will travel there coming monday the 13th and will book into the hotel around 12am. You already know ofcourse that we got married on Valentines Day last year, a very memorable day indeed, and now we will celebrate it with a bottle of champaign and I will lay in a bath for about two hours. When you consider the fact that we first got married on the 10th of july 1987 we are together for 25 years. That will be another reason to celebrate. I will tell you all about it when we get back. Wish me luck! |
