Commitment

My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose,
is a line from Rabbie Burns.
And tho' he's famous for it
it only makes me squirm.

It paints a picture of a love
that's sugary and twee,
when we all know that love can be
full of difficulties, you'll agree.

The road to bind two hearts together
is not a straight forward one.
In this day and age, we're much more likely
to just cut up and run.

Commitment seems to be a word
that only seems to smother.
But life would be much better
if we gave it to each other.

While there may be problems
it's almost inevitable, you see.
If we really cared, we'd always succeed
in turning 'me' into 'we'.

Everyone needs someone
to share their problems with,
it's a deep seated need for all of us
we brought it from our birth.

Yet when we manage to do it
the rewards are plain to see,
the world becomes a better place
and we become more free.

We have a bigger smile to show
a heart that's happy inside,
a love that's conquers all our fears
when we learn to walk side by side.

A great poem about companionship, Ian Very Happy

You seem to have a great understanding and depth about such matters.

It's a pleasure to read.

Best,
Carol
