Epitaph

Among most men there's a great desire
to be loved for what they are.
To be seen as someone special
if not exactly a star.

This need comes from a very deep place
within them hard to find.
Yet still it's there, you'll make no mistake,
unless you are quite blind.

Their need to be loved and cherished
by everyone in the room,
began its life at an early age
perhaps even in the womb.

And as I'm no different from others
I suppose I feel it too.
Except from where I'm sitting
it's much more likley to be true!

But seriously, I want to be loved
and hope my views are all shared.
I just want to see on my Epitaph
that here lies a man who cared.

Dear **Ian**: Your lines presuppose
a rather strong tweak on the nose.
We mortals do battle
against the vast prattle
that wants countless friends to be foes.

Ian, L.,
I am sure your epitath will say just that -- or something similar. You seem to have a good heart who looks out for his fellow man.
Your friend,
David Fox

A nice poem, Ian Very Happy

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful epitaph.

I always liked the mystery of John Keats' epitaph:

"Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water"

It kind of says it all! Very Happy

Best,
Carol

I too am sure you will have a good epitaph, (although not yet) and you won't know what people say about you anyway LOL

A good poem as usual thanks Ian

Here lies Steve
Recently belated
Hard to believe
For he was cremated

This stone may record
All of his endeavour
Sod all, just ignored
And you can’t live forever
Wink

Here lies Steve
whose loss we
truly bereaved
*
Let's pray for him
because
we never could tell
whether his soul
was going to Heaven
or to Hell

~Amen~
