| A VIEW OF SOCIETY The value of all social exercise, be it of biceps or of common speech, is that it lets us test with our own eyes how well our movements please the minds they reach. The bonus is, of course, the fact that we when in a group of living human souls can view them as a kind of tapestry that adds delightful substance to our goals. That interchange of gestures, looks, and sounds provides such thought-food that, when we're alone, each image we recall may act as grounds for everything from laughter to a groan. And if we're overwhelmed by so much fuss, it still may help improve some part of us. |
