Scotland

A land of sun-lit mountains
and purple heathered glens.
The land of the Malt whisky
and mony a 'but an ben'.

This is the land that's Scotland
the land that I call home
For love of it is ingrained deep
no matter where I roam.

My father wasn't born there
although he had some worth
I always just referred to it
as an accident of birth.

But he had to spend his life there
like many gone before.
Because once caught, you can't let go
it gets inside your pores.

For those of us who come from there
it has a tug and pull
so that no matter where we be
our hearts are always full.

We cannot pass a castle
or a river deep and serious
but our thoughts turn to our homeland
so fair, yet so mysterious.

It evokes the deepest emotions
in friend or foe alike.
A land that's adored around the world
all others so unlike.

In common with other patriots
who've found themselves living away,
I pray when I die, that my ashes will lie
by the side of an old scottish brae.

Dear **Ian**: Your liking for home
shines mightily as your lines roam.
No Scot might I be now,
yet I might feel free now
to thank you for turning some loam!

Smile

I think Scotland will probably be independent before the turn of the century. Hopefully sooner than later. (I say this as somebody who is half Irish and half Setter........)
