PostSubject: THE ROUGE   Mon Nov 28, 2011 2:36 am

Spring, 1923
A rain crow calls on this soft eve

While love is new
The time is due
For "her young man"
To request her hand

Her mother cups her chin
Touching the ivory skin
Her trembling hand moves across
Her daughter's features, curving soft

"I know just the touch"
And she opened a long pearl lid box
"Just a touch of rouge
Only a touch of blush will do"

In a scarf of white lace
And with rouge on her face
Her skirts softly swish
As she walks toward her first kiss.

Dear **Scott**: Such quite mannered vignettes
apparently snuff cigarettes.
That youngster's first kissing
seems tied to hot hissing
by me, and I play few roulettes.

Very romantic! It is almost like something from the past when courtship and love were so much more special then they are now. It is moving how the mother wants her daughter to look her best. She must believe that her loved one must be worthwile. Ofcourse the daughter must pay extra attention to herself, knowing that she will now be asked to marry the man who loves her. Just the fact that her first kiss will be given on such a special moment proves that this is something from the past that young people nowadays just wouldn't understand. This poem really appealed to me and I sincerely believe that you should write more poems just like this one as you seem to be good at it. My compliments.

A really lovely poem, Scott! Very Happy

Your poem really illustrates how morals and attitudes have changed in relationships.

Unfortunately, we've chosen to subdue a lot of sensitivity in relationships in favor of a much more hard edged approach. This may contribute to a kind of a polarization between the sexes, I think.

I like the way that you have framed the poem by using the same line for the first and last sentence and just changed the year.
It makes the poem a lot more thought provoking.

Well written! Very Happy

Best,
Carol

As has been said Scott a good poem, I read it as her life begining on its future course and sadly it's ending. If your poem is any clue, then she had a good life.
