Like Gilly said, I almost let Rose and Steve fight it out between themselves.....I miss the good ol' days when we had lots of poets fighting for the monthly award (and a mutt like me wasn't allowed to enter, let alone allowed to judge). That being said (and a plea for more of you lovely and talented people to PLEASE enter the monthly contests!), I think I finally have to decide on Steve. Crushed Rose will always have my crushed heart, but in this case Steve's sonnets were simply superior sonnets........

I feel the same as you Kevin, and it's a shame that not more entered as your topic gave plenty of scope for ideas. Mind you I didn't enter either Sad but thought we should give 'all the other people' a chance.

Come on folks have a go at the challenge, and although there aren't big bucks to be won, it's a great way to keep the grey matter working and feed the poetry muse, and you get to choose the following month's topic if you win.

Otherwise.. over to you Steve.. do we try to keep the challenge going or let it fade away?
And it's your turnSteve... to set the theme for September....

Well, always best to keep it going...
I don't know why you felt you couldn't enter ? perhaps that is what others think too!

Ok I shall make it simple (or not hee hee)

Lets write a poem on any subject which includes .... the words....
(only poets may apply lol)

Carrots
Mary Poppins
Glasses
Umbrella

?

PostSubject: Carrots Mary Poppins Ate, & She Thus Wore No Glasses 'Neath Her Umbrella   Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:43 am

Carrots Mary Poppins Ate, & She Thus Wore No Glasses 'Neath Her Umbrella

My mother told Mary (Mary Poppins)
to eat plenty of carrots. I told
many people I liked carrots
and somewhat craved my mother.
When I ran into Mary Poppins
the other day, I remarked on
her umbrella. (My first mark thereon
had been spectacularly similar
to the entire look of spectacles
as spectacles can seem to imbibe glasses.)
Lest this commentary sound overly
mildly geekily-wimpily dysenterylike,
I might blame someone. I choose to blame
Steve [Steve Admin]! Steve established a list;
THAT LIST was too uninclusively willing to test me.
I would have excluded myself in;
anyhooooo, as the current hour is near three
in the morning (!), I'm feeling listless.

I learned long ago I can't compete with Bruce, BUT here we go with another "usual gang of Redwolf idiots" reply:

Mary Poppins, day by day
Would count carrots by the half
(And never mind the gems
And never mind the calf)
Because she couldn't see, sir
The seaweed by the seashore
Because she never learned in highschool classes
That's it's easier to see when wearing glasses!

And her randy fella
Would withhold her new umbrella
So both her ardor and her intellect were doused
And though he wasn't worthy
And although he was quite pervy
The upshot was they soon were quite espoused

Now Mary "Carrot" Poppins is simply always hoppins
With the stretch marks pervy fellas often cause
Though her very new quadruplets
Are very nice but the UPSHOT is
That pervy fella with umbrella's a lost CAUSE!

It was a dark, dismal day
rain spattered down
onto the pavement
and on me, excitedly skipping
through puddles, too short
for the sheltering canopy
of granny’s umbrella
She was giving me a treat,
taking me to a film,
now I could see properly,
with my new glasses
She said that I needed them
because I hadn’t eaten my carrots
guiltily, I shuffled my feet
in my soggy shoes
I hated carrots
Mary Poppins was nice
gave spoonfuls of sugar
and flew with her umbrella
my glasses steamed up inside
and I wished I could fly away too

PostSubject: ORANGE   Fri Sep 16, 2011 4:35 am

ORANGE

When I was a child
it was such fun
to watch Mary Poppins
and ponder upon
her magic umbrella
that took her to the skies
and the way in which
she was so wise,
but as I got older
my eyesight changed
the wrong sort of glasses
made it all deranged,
and her umbrella grew
to look like a giraffe,
it might sound silly
but it was a laugh,
so I went to the doctor
and he said to me,
you need to eat
more carrots
for your tea,
so that's what I did
and my eyes got better,
went the opticians,
could read every letter,
but when I watched
Mary Poppins on the TV,
there still was something
strange to me
when she pulled
all those big items
out of her bag,
that couldn't be real,
I just had to laugh,
and so I ate even more carrots
for my tea,
but now I've turned
orange as can be.

September has ended
Chucked out with the slopping’s
I didn’t carrot at all
With an umbrella like Mary Poppins !

Dear Brucie, full of list
Or Kevin full of lust
Our Rose, eyes full of mist
Gilly doing as she must……..

Oh how I shall suffer
Guess that’s the way it goes
Wonderful entries
But this time
Get on with it Rose Shocked
