Thanks, Gilly, although it's RedWOLF. (Although I'm both tall, and have been called dumber than a wood post.......) For August, with the dog days of summer and all, I'm thinking CANINES of all types. Pet dogs, or pet wolves, or foxes, or dingos. Or fox hunts or puppy love (I'm trying to make this as wide of a field as possible, although I hate it when my puppy falls in love with a field.....) Or the dogs of war, or the Hound of the Baskervilles, or 101 Dalmatians, or the 101 degree DAYS of summer. So I suppose, either the weather or the atmosphere of the dog days of August, or something that has at least SOMETHING to do with a dog, somewhere or other......

Puppy Love (is blind)

Ears flapping
No chance of doing what you say
Off galloping
Legs going every which way
Tail wagging
Blonde bundle of fluff and hair
Eyes watching
For any food held unaware
Nose prodding
And tongue if you give him a chance
Paw offering
On your lap if you give him a glance
Mud spattering
Over you as he shakes from the ditch
Clean clothing
None left, I haven't a stitch

Very cute and very sweet, Rose! I hope some others of our fine poetic members will search the skies and bring out their inner puppies for us........

PostSubject: Reigning cats and dogs   Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:56 pm

Here is a sonnet I did tonight for a challenge on (another great poetry site, lol) You may prefer to cut your doggy teeth on the second verse.
The original challenge was to mirror one of your favorite poems wot you have wrote.

Deceptive Sonnet

Unheard is the click upon the back door
The silence of the house is unbroken
Moonlight casts her shadow upon the floor
Swiftly moving onward, thoughts unspoken
Softly she treads, she hardly makes a sound
Creeping gently upstairs, the hour is late
Hopes no one notices she is around
He stirs in his sleep, she pauses, to wait

Distance closing now, she is nearly there
Her plan to slip silently into bed
She does it most nights, he is unaware
Forgotten by morning, nothing is said

Not asleep, he merely pretends to doze
Hello puss cat he says, meow she goes

Fridge Fidget

For God’s sake, what is going on down there?
There is enough noise to waken the dead
If I have to get out of bed I swear
You’ll spend the night in the bloody tool shed
Why can’t you just come to bed, settle down
Cheese or sausages, any midnight snack
If I have to put on my dressing gown
How can you see, it’s bloody pitch black

Sweetheart my patience is wearing quite thin
I wonder why you do this late at night
What are you doing in the pedal bin?
I have to say, something isn’t quite right

Not the first time, this has happened before
You big fat hungry, golden Labrador
