I'm really glad to hear that you are feeling better from your ordeal, Berry It sounds as if it was a very scary time for you and I'm glad that you've had a clean bill of health since then. I imagine that it must have been a tremendously upsetting time for your mum, too. Your health comes first, so keep up the good work with your regime. Both of my parents are deceased, but fortunately, I am still in good health and I don't have to take any medications. I drink Chinese green tea every day! But things can change quickly on us! Take care and I hope that everything goes well for you! Best, Carol

I just wanted you all to know I'm doing great and feeling fine. Ofcourse I take pills to make sure it will never happen again but what the hell. If that is all it takes to make sure that you're okay then who am I to complain? I usually go to the gym three times a week. Last time I went to the hospital they told me I had nothing to worry about. My next visit will be in march next year. Then my bloodpressure is gonna be checked and my cholesterol and accordingly I have a second appointment to have my heart checked but I have confidence that everything will be alright. Basically there was never anything wrong with my heart, just my artery that was clogged up but that has been taken care of. I am happy that I can do all sorts of things again without getting tired. Just thought you'd liked to know.

I wish you all the luck in the World, Berry & continued good health in the future. Take it easy. It's amazing what they can do medically now to treat heart conditions. OH had a similar problem a few years ago, he had an angioplasty & he is fine now, though he too takes all kinds of pills a day. _________________ Regards Val

| What a terrible time you have had, Berry ! I hope you will continue to improve, and that your mum has suffered no ill effects from the shock; also that you enjoy your planned concerts, with no problem. Good luck for your appointments

In this way I want to let the other members know I have had a heartinfarct on the 24th of march. I had a pain in my chest so I went to see the doctor right near the hospital, also because my mum was very worried. He took my bloodpressure which was very high wich puzzled me because I already took a pill everyday to keep it low. Then he took a heartfilm and he told me: "It doesn't look good at all. You're not going anywhere. I'll get in touch with a cardiologist". A moment later two medics came in and I had to lay down on a stretcher after which they wrapped me in a blanket. This was to me rather surreal. They shoved me in an ambulance and rushed me to the First Aid Unit. I was then connected to a monitor and they put me on two drips. I already had a tube in my nose for extra oxygin. Then a doctor came to tell me I had had a heartinfarct due to the fact that my coronary artery was blocked and not much later they would perform an angioplasty and place a stent. You can't describe what goes through you when you hear that. I was in a complete state of shock apart from the fact that I was very worried about my mum and how she would react when she would get the news. She is 83 years old and she has a heartcondition herself. Her brother in law who took me to the hospital by car went back and told her after which she completely broke down. In the meantime they took me to the operation room and by means of a tube in my groin they reached the artery after which they performed the operation. Then I was taken to the coronary care unit where I was on a monitor and my bloodpressure was checked every half an hour. Apart from that I got all kind of injections and pills. I wasn't even allowed to raise my head from the pillow when someone addressed me as that could put a pressure on my groin and with all the bloodthinners I was given that would cause a serious problem. I was taken good care of but nevertheless I didn't sleep at all that night. Later that evening my mum and brother came to see me. I could tell she was very nervous and about to burst into tears. I felt so sorry for her even though I was in the most deplorable situation imaginable. By saturday I had recovered enough to be taken to the General Heart Unit on the 7th floor. They continued to give me pills and injections and also they continued to check my bloodpressure. The following monday a doctor told me that the coronary artery was also partly blocked (50%) in several other places but they would treat that with medication as an angioplasty can also cause complications. I was glad they didn't tell me that before the operation. I had recovered enough and I would be allowed to leave the hospital the next morning. I was quite surprised about that. The care I had received from so many nurses was fantastic. It was like being in a four star hotel. I knew I was gonna miss all of them even though it is ofcourse better to be free and healthy or relatively healthy in my case. Now I am home and I always resented taking pills for anything. Still I have to accept the fact that from now on I have to take seven pills per day, five in the morning and two at night. Most of them are to stop my blood from clotting and that way to avoid another heartinfarct. My life has been turned upside down and from now I will have to take it real easy. The thing is that I still got several concerts I'm gonna go to, the first one coming up is Joan Baez and I'll be damned if I'm gonna give it up. The funny thing is that on the same day I have to go the hospital to atttend the first one of two informative meetings in which they will tell me what it will mean for the future that I have had this problem. Then they will test my heart by cycling, fysiotherapy and cardio training. I will just wait and see what happens and I will co-operate the best way I can but I just want to pick up my life where I left off and not behave like I'm an invalide. I hope I can protect myself from future problems by doing everything they tell me. Wish me luck.
