Hi, everyone .. I've had a think and I would like everyone to write about their favourite place, either to visit, or an everyday place
and of course ... if you have more than one favourite place, then you can write more than one poem Very Happy

A Secret Place

Under the trees along the track
(Fields and moorland back to back)
In the dappled shade and light
Myriad insects dance in flight
Walk the path to the centre place
And there be lost in time and space
An ancient quarry, wild, overgrown
Nature has claimed it for her own
Derelict buildings open to sky
While up above the Buzzards fly
Some strange creature in the stream
Weed covered ripples all that's seen
Wild deer warily slake their thirst
The rabbits probably came here first
Moorland ponies stay to crop
Grass that grows among the rock
Willows have colonized the quarry base
A wildlife haven, a Secret Place.

Val.

Pannier Market

Granite stone and brick archway support
The roof, high like a barn,
Beams crisscross the vaulted ceiling
This building has age and rugged charm.
For over a thousand years, this market has thrived
When a Charter was granted to sell
In the year of 1105,
Cattle, sheep, horses and geese as well
Now modern goods are on display
Where once a different scene was played
Books and jewelery, here to buy
Bric-a-Brac, crafts and clothing arrayed
A friendly people sell and buy
This market voted the best
In the year 2004, this was
A head above the rest.

Val

Both the above poems posted a fair while ago, in another place, but they seemed appropriate to this challenge.

Far from the maddening crowds
people near silent in their absence
though their motorway is loud
sound bouncing from far off hill
back across these green fields
I regularly traverse at will
drawn down to the riverside
to follow the water as it flows
meandering shallow and wide
where ducks sleep at the edge
of the raised gravel bed, while
moorhens scoot under overhanging hedge
and swans swim at their stately pace
until the riverbank narrows
with steps to make the river race
through channels where it was sent
to harness the power of water
ere the mill wheel’s use was spent
and the aged stone walls of the mill
withstand the test of time
though the wooden wheel is not there still
remains of the wheelhouse can be seen
beyond the weir, partly hidden now
in a fresh blanket of natural green
