| I have an old one. I hope it's acceptable?
Mini Beast.
Oh ancient mini beast, Inside my Amber bead, Trapped in there forever. Did you touch down to feed?
I wonder where the Forest For your daily round, What birds or beasts were present, Where your home was found?
Now too much time has passed I guess I'll never know, But you are sealed for posterity Inside this Amber glow.

| ... I tried to broach the subject Of the wedding ring But her attention was engaged Upon a shiny thing Lips so ruby red like fire Her glowing amber skin Her eyes as blue as sapphire Reflecting that shiny thing She was emerald green with envy At the diamonds set within And no platinum or silver Could outshine that shiny thing I pointed out some pearls As my wallet felt chagrin Yet no opals or gold could distract Her from that shiny thing Iridium and sphalerite In the most exquisite ring Better than a girls best friend The most expensive shiny thing... _________________ Steve www.noaddress.co.uk

| This is an older poem too. Not in a writing mood at the moment.
Mother's Ring.
I have a little golden ring, its cash value is not great, if sold would not a fortune bring from its lowly carat weight.
On its bridge of silver fretting a dainty pattern is impressed and in a three squares setting lie three modest gems abreast.
A central ruby is embedded and on each side, left and right, to this crimson pool is wedded a small pair of diamonds bright.
But scarce another ornament I would so highly measure. It's what this little circle meant that makes this band a treasure.
Priceless was this ring's allure in my mother's life; it's the symbol Father gave her when she said she'd be his wife. |

| Natures Jewels
Fresh new grass of emerald green Tree backdrop of darker malachite Sunlit water of aquamarine Deepens in shade to moldavite
Haematite clouds, dark and mean Brings teardrop raining danburite Lustrous rays of golden sphene Prism us rainbow ammolite
Sunlight sparks of bright citrine Lights a sky of blue tanzanite Fire opal burns us a sunset scene Moonstone glows in star sapphire night
Nature gives us these colours to see Reflected in gems for jewellery

| I like Mother's ring, Eunice. It reminds me I have my Mother's ring as well. Gosh! Rose, some research went into that one. Not heard of some of those gems. Good one. Diamonds are forever! _________________ Regards Val |

| Rose I am not copying (Honest) but mine is on a similar vein. And I called it JEWELS of NATURE
Wearing green emeralds I am like a Summer's Day With my diamonds that shine Like stars along the milky way For my ring of citrine Is a most precious thing Looks like a sunset so bright which makes my heart sing A ruby so red like fire A pearl, is snowy white Jewellery makes me feel alive for gold is yellow and bright

| The mother was fed up that day There wasn’t enough money to pay For any diamonds for her ring No expensive jewels to make her sing
But there within the spiders web The dew drops sparkled diamond led And as the morning dried the dew Diamonds dropped in front of you
You stooped to pick them but they’d gone Vanished into the air ere non But then you noticed a puddle there And pointed out more diamonds there
The sunshine sparkled rippling water Flashing jewels to her small daughter And as her Mum just gazed therein She realised truth was lurking in The natural world she took for granted Rather than the jewels she’d wanted
Her daughter taught her to look close And find that what she wanted most Was already there well within reach Just on the soil or on the beach
For as she told me with a smile Her child reminded her it is worthwhile If you but take the time to stare So much to marvel at is there

| Have pity on the pockets of the poor males down the ages...
Song from the Emerald Aisle
I'm certain that if I should give you a ruby That always towards me you would have to true be
But forever after I would dine on gruel In order to pay off the cost of the jewel.
So maybe I ought to just think of a new gem? That's gem with a large G, a great E and huge M.
Or maybe you'd just be content with a pearl? Oh go on, please try it; please give it a whirl!
No, don't say that only a diamond will suit, When even in sequins you always look cute.
So, careful, these sparklers betray lack of taste - And can you be sure that you aren't buying paste?

| VAL with Mini Beast
There was a veritable (jewellry) box of delights, and I am sure that the poems that people wrote must have evoked beautiful memories too. But after much thought I picked Val and her Mini Beast.. trapped within the amber glow.
So it's over to Val now to pick a topic for December and pick the winner.
Thanks to everyone who entered. |
