Tui
____
A tui is loudly singing in the kowhai tree,
hidden in the branches high above,
singing from his camouflaged place amongst leaves,
singing sweetly to his lady love.
Safe up in the treetops he is free to sing his song,
the notes of which are carried on the breeze,
carried to the ears of his listeners far below
across the road and houses heard with ease.

The blossoms of the kowhai are yellow as the sun,
beckoning to the tui come and sip,
and tui doesn't hesitate to answer to its call.
His beak into sweet nectar he does dip.
I love to hear the tui singing bell-like in the trees.
He never sets his foot upon the ground.
His little white bib flashes as his wings fly overhead
then from another tree his music sounds.

Eunice,
This is lovely. I don't believe I've met a tui bird before, but I'm sure I'll recognize one now due to your eloquent description. Thanks.
Your friend,
David Fox

The tui bird sounds exotic as does the kowai tree. What a magical place New Zealand sounds.

Thanks for this picture you have painted for us in words, Eunice!

How lovely you make this scene, Eunice
tui and kowai sound much better than sparrow and beech! Smile
