| Here's one to ponder, a bridge to nowhere. _________________ Steve www.noaddress.co.uk

| A railway line, perhaps it was, Or, did a stream once flow. The former Beeching closed because....... Maybe the stream below, Dried up in one bad yearly drought? More likely, diverted away. I know there is some doubt! The truth I can not say!: _________________ Regards Val |

| I liked that Val, a very thoughtful poem. Hey your back in the poetry club Where have you been ? A wide canal used to flow Down to the Severn River Under this bridge, far below Canal boats would deliver In a time now lost Far away At such cost A motorway Swan and duck Cast aside Oh’ what luck The canal died A wide canal used to flow Down to the Severn River Cars and Lorries all to show Wind blown grasses all a quiver. _________________ Steve www.noaddress.co.uk

| Not really back into poetry, Steve, thank you, but that photo sort of jogged my inspiration. I wrote it very quickly. So, it was a canal bridge then. _________________ Regards Val |

| Today this bridge stands lost Yet a hundred years ago Barges plied their trade Underneath it, to and fro
Coal was taken to the wharf And onward to each mill Woollen cloth sent to the river The old canal was never still
Then roads were built and widened Lorries came into play The canal became disused Then blocked off for a motorway
The bridge still stands undamaged Monument to life at a slower pace Across the field the sound intrudes Of modern times that rush and race

| I haven't been around as much lately, but thought I had better make some effort. A poor attempt alongside your own and Rose's.
Across a green, grassy field a bridge stands now neglected, A testamony to times long past Now standing unaffected. Weeds and trees grow up around Disguising crumbling mortar. They built it many years ago, A span 'cross running water. |

| Oh dear, oh dear My sat nav's gone mad It sent me this way which was just too bad This bridge no more there is nowhere to go Still in one piece But oh, so slow
Not even a sheep to greet me now Iknow at one time there was a fiield of cows Well I'm really lost No friends around if I stay here Do you think I'll be found? _________________ |

| Yay three late entries, and very nice too. I was wondering, do you think the best poem should choose the picture and winner for the following month? Steve delegating lazily Riggs. If not I can do it, I just thought someone may have more interesting pictures _________________ Steve www.noaddress.co.uk

| I really liked all your witty poems about the bridge, thankyou. I'm going to ask Val to choose a picture for November, because it was nice to see her out of the cafe Don't worry Val you don't have to write one if you don't want to, just find a nice picture and choose the winner at the end of the month. Thanks. Steve. _________________ Steve www.noaddress.co.uk
