The urge to impress is strong - especially when it comes to matters of the heart...

Swimmingly

Gulp

Gasp.

Watch out!

Furious scrabbling.
Fear of collision.
Lungs bursting.
Avoid the macho pool strutters.
Please don't hit me!

Why do I do it?

Joyless floundering.
Terrified of choking.
Mind where you're diving!
Muffled, bubble-filled, subsurface gurglings.
Frantic windmill-like flailing of arms.
Zero progress.

Why do I do it?

Inept, splashing thrashing.
Sickening, poolside crack of wrist.
Grimace with pain.
Curl from cold.
Cringe from chlorine.
Fright of being caught beyond chin depth.

Why do I do it?

Snort.

Cough.

Because she's watching.

I had to laugh, Rowan. That is just so typical of young infatuation.

I really liked it anyway.
