| There is a fine line to tread between free speech and censorship. Berry's poem has caused some controversy which is better discussed elsewhere than a poetry thread on this usually happy site.
I have allowed the poem to remain for some time so that opinions may be expressed by anyone who has read it. Berry has made it clear that it is only terrorism which his poem was meant to oppose, but others have read it differently, so in the interest of harmony I hope Berry will understand that I am removing it, having given everyone ample opportunity to read it.
Steve. |

| It is a real shame that some people have given the wrong explanation to the poem even though I explained repeatedly what I meant. Therefore I agree with Steve and have requested the poem to be removed to avoid any more disturbance. My appologies to anyone I may have upset. It was never my intention. |

| Sorry I missed it, Barry. I know one thing about poetry, people interpret according to their own paradigm and I know it often misses the point the poet was trying to make. Usually, it does not cause great controversy, but I guess your poem must have hit a nerve. |

| Yeah, especially with one particular poet. And I thought that after all these years people knew me. Just shows how wrong you can be. When it comes to terrorism everyone's in a slumber and they don't like rude awakenings. |

| Not sure what happened here, as I didn't see the poem, but I think that sometimes the meanings we find when we read may not be what the poet intended. I guess this has been a good wake up call to us all to make us look at our poetry again to see what other meanings could be inadvertently lurking there. Sometimes the hidden meanings give our poetry a subtlety we hadn't realised - but sometimes I guess they cause offence even though the motive was not to do so. Poetry is often controversial I guess.
Not to worry, look forward to reading you again, Berry, and just put that one down to experience.
Take care, Jo x |

| Berry, I'm sorry I missed reading it...it probably was good. Don't worry about hitting a nerve with anyone...I know I accidentally hit one when I wrote "If You're Shy, You Shouldn't Be A Poet". Shouldn't have posted it I guess, most poets on this site obviously don't read their work in public. But stand behind your work, and don't let anyone bully you. E-mail it to me; I'm sure I'll enjoy it. You're a good friend. David Fox |
