Subject: A Sketch (to bring back memories)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A pencil sketch to bring back memories
of a long ago, perfect summer day
by sun dappled lake, under shading trees
where lazy hours whiled peacefully away
Contentedly I’d sit, reading my book
but you determined to teach me to fish
unable to resist pleas of, come, look,
eventually, I granted your wish

Armed with a motley collection of kit,
taught how to cast out to just the right place,
alarm set to sound out, if a carp bit,
I settled back to somnambulant pace

[center][b]Full of instructions I’d surely not need
I picked up my book, and started to read

...........

Shrieking sound disturbed! ‘Strike!’ I heard you shout
as my book fell, face down, on the muddy floor
half an hour passed, reeling in, slacking out
my arms felt they couldn’t take any more
then the fish tired too, pulled less on the line,
slowly reeled it toward your landing net
gazed at the beauty of this fish, now mine,
the biggest (and only) carp I’d caught yet

Huge to me, but ‘only eight pounds, if that’
as barbless hook slipped easily from lip,
lifted it gently from soft, padded mat,
freed it with a touch to tail’s golden tip

Set up again, to catch another one
Understanding, this passion of my son

I have chosen Crushed Rose's poem A sketch (to bring back Memories)

This is certainly a poem of love for her son. Even though she was not keen on fishing she would support him in his hobby. Thank you Crrushed rose Well done I loved it .
