Subject: Baby, What baby? Sun Jul 04, 2010 8:58 pm

As a first time mum
I was learning the ropes
vigilant and watchful
the way each new mum copes

Second time around
not at all stressed
eldest at school
babe washed and dressed
went shopping for food
needing quite a lot
baby sound asleep
in his carrycot
pushed him in front
dragging trolley behind
got to the checkout ...
and he slipped from my mind

paid for the groceries
carried them from the shop
thought ...something is missing ...
and my heart seemed to stop

raced back into the store
where I’d left him inside
checkout ladies laughing
me - with no place to hide
he’d been so quiet
asleep in his carrycot
how embarrassing
it was my baby I forgot!

I chose Rose's poem BABY, WHAT BABY as poem of the week. It is what most MUms can relate too, also as a child I left my brother at the chippy. LOL Congratulations Rose, well done

I think many of us could relate to this poem. We hadn't had Jerram very long when I cam home one night to find Brian out and the baby in the cot. He had taken the dog for a walk. When he arrived home, I challenged him and he said he had forgotten we had a baby!

Well done Rose,. A great choice!

Jo x
