PostSubject: June challenge   Thu Jun 03, 2010 1:46 am

This month the challenge relates to a saying ...the moon in June ...

I'd like a poem about the moon, please

PostSubject: Stealer of Dreams   Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:40 pm

Stealer of Dreams

The light sails through the window bare
And dances on the young, sleep-steeped faces
Bereft of the cares of day.

The Stealer rides the beam
With gossamer touch of toe, feel of fingertip
Into a bedroom a-dance with the shades of night.

A flit here, a flit there,
Seeking the miracle of innocence and
The power of wonderment.

The children dream, and the dreams writhe
And billow as clouds, twisting with the
Unpredictability of impulse.

As always, the Stealer tries to catch
The uncatchable, the grasp evaded,
The target ever insubstantial, out of reach.

As always, the despair of elusive fulfilment
Forces the merest whisper of
A sorrow-enfolded sigh.

One child rouses and bends fumbling finger
To bleary eye, to seek out the
The waking call.

But the Stealer is gone, fled
Back to his place in the firmament
Where the cool, white orb sails serene.

PostSubject: Moon Shadows   Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:52 pm

Moon Shadows

Through eerie moon
a shadow cast,
What is your secret?
What is your past?

I see through you,
I feel your pain.
You cast more shadows,
always in vain.

Overhead I see,
a whole galaxy is thine.
The whole universe salutes
on thee they shine.

Charcoal etched trees,
bow down in grace.
Black outline shadows,
that you do trace.

Water rippling,
under your dark stare,
shining up again
with cosmic glare.

As I look closer,
I faintly see.
You made a rainbow,
shine down on me.

Rowan, an uneasy feeling in your poem ...was the Stealer stealing sleep or dreams, or worse - I wonder ...
a different take on the moon, which I enjoyed reading

Karen, a dark start to your poem, and an eerie feel, which lightens at the end, as if the moon has come out from behind a cloud
Another different slant on the moon, and another enjoyable read

Silver moon in dark sky
flickering pin pricks of light surround it
and that night we pick our way home
up the steep lane
missing pot holes
for the moon shines behind us
showing the way.
Our moon shadows go in front
eerie echoes of the day,
but the silver shining moon
hangs bright that night
belying its inconstancy.

a nice end to a day, Jo!
and how dark it suddenly gets, when a cloud covers the moon ...you have to stop until your eyes adjust

Not many entries to choose from, but it doesn't make it easier!
and I'm sorry I didn't post one, but my muse totally went moonstruck ...

I enjoyed all three, but Jo painted me a picture with her moonlit walk, and Jo wins the June challenge
